Registration is now closed for the Spring. Hampden Meadows School is pleased to continue our “Enrich Your Mind” extended day programs for the 2009 – 2010 school year. The programs have been designed to meet the needs and address the interests of our students. We have 2 eight week sessions. The Spring session will begin the week of March 1st. Assuming there are no school cancellations or instructor cancellations, classes will continue for eight consecutive weeks. There will be no classes during April vacation or on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 due to an in-service day.

All tuition received is designed to cover all operating costs for this program, such as instructors, equipment, and materials. We have done our best to keep the program affordable for all families. Limited scholarships are available for those who may have difficulty paying for the cost of the program. For more information please contact the Program Coordinator, Alison Burke.

If your child is not going to attend his/her class on a certain day, you must notify the office with a written note or phone call (401-247-3166). If your child’s form of transportation is going to be different than what was listed on the registration form, a written note is required!

Please remind your child that they are coming to the Enrichment class to learn and have fun. They are expected to be respectful to the instructor, fellow students, and classroom materials. If behavior problems are continually addressed, your child will be dropped from the Enrichment Program without a refund.

There will be no refunds on any SPRING programs after Friday, March 12, 2010.
- Morning dismissal from Enrichment courses will take place promptly at 8:30 to the playground.
- Afternoon dismissal from Enrichment courses will take place promptly at 4:30. Pick-up, walking, or late bus are the dismissal options. ALL STUDENTS BEING PICKED UP MUST BE SIGNED OUT BY AN ADULT IN THE MAIN FOYER.
- A late bus will be provided and will drop your child at their regular bus stop.
- In the event a parent or designated adult does not pick up a child/children by 4:40pm, the following steps will be taken by the program coordinator.
o If your child is still in our care after 4:40 P.M., you will be charged $10 for each fifteen minute period or part thereof until you arrive.
o At 4:55 P.M. the program coordinator will attempt to reach the parent, designated adult or emergency contact person by telephone.
o If someone cannot be reached and no one has come for the child, the program coordinator will drive the child to the Barrington Police Station. The child will remain at the police station until picked up by a parent or designated adult.

Monday Mornings (7:30-8:30)
Future Millionaires
Calling all future millionaires! Join Mr. Greg Voigt, a Vice President with Merrill Lynch Client Group, based in Providence, for an 8 hour session course on what investing is all about. Learn about how and why companies offer shares of ownership to the public; and how you, as a member of that public, can determine exactly which companies’ shares of ownership might be best for you to own. Learn how money is made (and lost) through the stock market which auctions all those shares of ownership in large amounts each and every day. Learn how to buy, sell, and collect a group of stocks and how to monitor that group‘s performance. The course will end with a stock-picking contest and prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Join Mrs. Nozaki and learn the basics of Spanish, a must-know language! After 8 weeks, impress your friends and family with your newly learned skills!

All Children’s Theatre (ACT)-Class is Full!
Acting I: Acting 1 provides fundamentals of acting to any aspiring young performer. This class focuses on improvisation, character creation, pantomime, vocal technique, and team building-all the basics. There will be a final presentation on the last day to show off what these ACTors have learned.

Cross Country Running - Class is Full!
Do you love exercise? Are you interested in building stamina and endurance as a runner? Then Cross Country Running is the class for you! Join HM teacher Mr. Lefcourt and run safely outside in order to become fit and healthy!

Scrapbooking
Tuesday mornings will be full of creativity as we scrap a whole year’s worth of memories. In this course students will complete a small 1-year album. We will create amazing winter, spring, summer, and fall layouts using an array of techniques and materials (including tearing, chalking, eyelets, ribbons, watercolor, punches, and so much more!) Students can either bring photos for each season or make a scrapbook and then add pictures from this coming year. Come scrap with us!

Mandarin Chinese
Are you interested in learning a new up and coming language? Join Mrs. Zhao to learn the basics of such a fascinating language!

Movie Maker
Are you ready for an exciting aspect of movie making? Turn your digital pictures into movies your friends and family will love! Add titles, credits, special effects and even your favorite music to make your pictures come alive.

Knitting -(Offered on Thursday mornings as well!) -Class is Full!
Interested in learning a life long skill? Join HMS parent Nancy Martin to learn how to develop your knitting skills. Learn to knit while creating fun projects like wrist warmers and a scarf. This is also for students who have taken knitting with Mrs. Martin and are ready to learn more skills and take on some new and challenging projects. If you are just a beginner or an experienced knitter, please don’t hesitate to join!

Regal Reptiles- Recently added due to high enrollment!
Snakes, spiders, and alligators, Oh my! This class is not for the squeamish at heart, but if you like things that wiggle, craw, and attack, you may be interested in Regal Reptiles. Each week will be dedicated to learning about a new species of reptile through a hands-on experience.

Kids Cook Real Food- Class is Full!
Work with Kids First (www.kidsfirstri.org) chefs and Chartwells staff to make nutritious and delicious kid friendly recipes. We’ll teach you kitchen basics (including food safety!), prepare recipes using fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and beans, and taste the yummy creations. This hands-on class will help you to choose, prepare and enjoy healthy foods both in school and at home. Lots of sampling and lots of fun!!

Learn with LEGOS- Class is Full!
If you have an interest in robot building, this is the class for you! This session, only one course is being offered, so Mr. Monuteaux will do his best to address all levels in the class.

Cake Decorating 101- Class is Full!
Do you love to bake and decorate? If you do, Cake Decorating 101, is just for you. Work along side a professional cake decorator to learn how to decorate your very own baked goods, including cupcakes, cakes and cookies. By the end of the eight-week course, everyone will be begging you to make his or her birthday cake!

Wednesday Mornings (7:30-8:30)
ART CLASS: MASTERS IN ART & DESIGN
This art class, will offer students in-depth instruction in methods and materials. Sessions will cover famous artists, a variety of drawing and painting styles which will encourage personal expression and creativity. The art lessons will introduce basic skills in art to help students achieve a more finished art project. There will also be a small Paper Mache project created. Each child will create a portfolio of work to reflect the range of media and art styles covered in class.

Yoga
Forget the stresses of schoolwork, competitive sports, and tension with friends and family with Yoga! Children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves. Doing yoga, children exercise, play, connect more deeply with the inner self, and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them. Yoga brings that marvelous inner light that all children have to the surface.

Wednesday Afternoons (3:30-4:30)
Rexlace (Gimp)
You might know it as Rexlace. Some call it gimp. Others refer to it as boondoggle or sometimes it's just good old plastic craft lace! Whatever name you know it by, it always means lots of fun. Kids have forever been braiding and weaving it into jewelry, lanyard hooks, key chains, and much more. In this class students will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of possibilities using this versatile craft medium.

Cartooning
Children will learn to draw their own cartoons using basic shapes. These will be transferred to acetate and painted. The acetate film can then be placed on different backgrounds to illustrate a story.

All Children’s Theatre- Musical Theatre - Class is Full!
We know they're out there - those kids who sing in the bathtub, the back seat of the car, the grocery checkout lines and at Show and Tell. For the young ACTor who's just begging to be heard, thank goodness there's Broadway Bound! Students learn the beginning techniques for good lifelong singing, then put them to use in a cabaret show that's all their own! They'll practice creative movement, presentation and good stage manners while belting out some old favorites. It's an experience not to be missed!
Musical: “Peter Pan” Come join Heather and re-tell this wonderful classic. Singing and dancing to all you favorite songs!

2215 - Creature Creations
Members of Providence's BIG NAZ0 LAB have designed, constructed and animated original characters for countless stage productions, parades, TV projects, and family extravaganzas throughout the US and overseas. Students in the BIG NAZ0 "Creature-Creation" workshop will be exposed to innovative drawing exercises and various 3-D fabrication techniques that combine foam, cardboard, tempra paint and a variety of materials to create unusual and fantastic creature-heads for use in parades, carnivals or just startling the general public!

Chess
Have you ever wanted to learn how to play chess? For beginners, this class will teach you the basics of chess as well as strategies to have fun and win. For those who have a solid foundation in chess and are ready for the opportunity to learn even more strategies, test your wit against some of the best HMS students. With the small class size, your chess coach will have the ability to work one-on-one with you each class to help you to improve your skills.

Mad Science
Join Mad Science for eight weeks of exploration into Crazy Chemworks! Mad Science will spark your imagination and show you that Science is FUN! Topics to be covered include: "Lab Works", "Jr. Reactors", "pH pHactor", "Slime Time", "Chem in Flash", "Glow Show", "Super Sticky Stuff", and "Dry Ice".

Regal rockets- Class is Full!
This program offers hands-on exploration of the science of flight. It will start with various paper planes, move onto Balsa Gliders and rubber band powered planes, and finally culminate with rockets. Students will also have experience with our "build and launch hobby rockets" that will go 300 feet up and return safely! This course will provide valuable lessons in the scientific method, math, physics and engineering.

Jewelry Making
In this hands-on class, students will learn how to make homemade jewelry. Students will be encouraged to use their own creativity and artistic flair in making their own unique jewelry after being exposed to a variety of sample items. Each week students will design their own earrings or bracelets using a variety of multi-colored clay and beads. The clay pieces will be baked by the instructor and returned to the students the following week to assemble, take home and enjoy!

After School Hoops® is One on One’s trademark program available to grade school boys & girls. Skilled & dedicated instructors will come right to Hampden Meadows and conduct one-hour instructional sessions that combine fundamental instruction with organized team and individual competitions. After School Hoops® will provide an enjoyable and educational after school athletic event that will benefit all students.

Starry Starry Mythology!
Ever look up at the stars and wonder what they are? Can you find the North Star and use its location to find your way home? Join us to learn all about Greek Mythology, Constellations, The Night Sky, Celestial Navigation and More! By the end of this class you'll be able to identify the major constellations with a star wheel and talk knowledgably about the myths associated with them. You'll also learn how to use a compass and sextant to approximate your location. We plan to arrange a meeting with the students and their families or caregiver(s) at a planetarium- date and location TBA.

***REGISTRATION begins Monday, February 8th at 7:30 AM and ends Wednesday, February 10th at 5:00 PM.
***CLASSES begin the week of March 1st and run for 8 consecutive weeks unless there is a school holiday.
ENROLLMENT in a particular class depends on:
1. Time of registration as well as submittal of payment.
2. NOTE: Students who register early but do not send in payments promptly are not guaranteed a spot in the class. It is strongly suggested you send payment in the day your child is registered.
3. CAREFULLY re-read the programs offered and the days/times they will be held. Whichever day the class is listed on is the day the class will be held. For example, a Monday PM class is offered at no other time! This is not a choice; it is dependent on the instructor’s schedule.
Please Note: It is strongly suggested that you enter a second choice since the first choice may be full.
4. IMPORTANT: If your child wants more than one course, you must complete a separate registration form for each requested course. The 2nd choice will not be treated as registration for a 2nd course selection.
5. The registration page is located at the bottom of this site. Once you hit submit, your child is registered. A confirmation number will appear for your records only.
6. A notice confirming which class(es) your child got into will be sent home the last week of February.
7. If there are any questions, please email Alison Burke at hmsenrich@bpsmail.org. Please refrain from calling the school office since they are not equipped to answer all questions.
PAYMENT
· Please send a check (in an envelope) made payable to Barrington Public Schools.
· Your child’s first and last name, the specific class they are registering for, and homeroom teacher’s name must all be included on the envelope.
