Nayatt News Update 11.6.2020

Empowering All Students to Excel

Dear Nayatt Families,

As we deal with increased numbers of positive COVID 19 cases in our state, our children sense the worry and concern from the adults in their lives and can become anxious.  This is normal in these times, but we all need help to deal with our emotions and to support ourselves and our loved ones.

One of the major goals of the Barrington Public Schools Strategic plan is related to SEL-social/emotional learning of our children.  For several years, our schools have been working to implement a “growth mindset” in our students as well as to provide them with strategies for managing their big emotions via the RULER Approach.  Some of the tools you may hear about from your child’s classroom are the charter, the mood meter, our best selves, positive self talk, reframing and more.

For information, Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence.  All emotions matter and you can learn more about this from Marc Brackett-Permission to Feel.  Several of our staff have read this book and follow Marc’s blog.  He is the founder of Yale’s Center for Emotional Intelligence.  Parents may find the resources helpful in these challenging times.

Mask Wearing:

With the positive case numbers going up, everyone needs to take extra precautions to protect the school community. It's also important to set good examples for our little ones and wear our masks at all times, even at arrival and dismissal.

Very Important-Arrival & Dismissal Safety Needs:

  • Please be sure to advise grandparents, babysitters, and nanny’s to do the following:

    • Follow the directions of staff.  There are 6 lanes of moving traffic.

    • Do not get out of the vehicle, ever, this is very dangerous.

    • It is a driveway, there is one way in and one way out, all traffic goes right onto Nayatt Road.

    • Do not change lanes while we are loading cars.

Holiday Travel:

RIDOH guidance on COVID/Travel  This may require a quarantine and we want parents to be fully aware of the expectations.  Thank you for your time and attention.

Upcoming Events:

  • Veterans’ Day, Wed. Nov. 11th-No School Students

  • Thanksgiving Holiday, Wed., Nov. 25th-Fri. Nov. 27th-No School Students

The Nayatt PTO:

Nayatt Learning Models:

  • Students who are out sick or being monitored for covid symptoms may participate in Distance Learning, if they are able.

  • Students are not allowed to participate in Distance Learning at random.  This is carefully followed and documented and can be cause for an attendance investigation.

  • If your child needs to be home for illness, try to email the office staff and the classroom teacher so we can mark your child, “virtually present” and make sure they can access the classroom.

  • Students who are on vacation are considered an unexcused absence and will make up work on their return, this is district policy.

Special thanks to Krista Carleton for continuing her efforts with Sarah Mycroft of Gardens of Grounds to make us stools for our outdoor classrooms.  It is so great to see the children using them at dismissal.  Another set was added to the lawn this past week.  The Square 1 Art Fundraiser will help us to continue to add to our outdoor resources for our children such as chalk paint, canopies, plants for our gardens and greenhouse, and more.

Special thanks to Heather Lombardo for the donation of our new “break away” lanyards to keep our students safe and to keep our masks with us at all times.

Governor Raimondo is asking that we wear our masks at all times, even when outside.

Have a great weekend!

Tracey
