Backpack Express - 4/10/24

Good afternoon,

This week’s Backpack Express is ready for you.

  • Clothes need:  If you have any extra gently-used clothes (sweatpants, leggings, shorts, t-shirts) that your child has outgrown, feel free to send them into the school.  We are also in need of new underwear.  We use these items when a student has some type of accident.  If you would like to donate any of these items, please drop them off in the nurse’s office.

  • Yearbook:  It’s that time of year for the yearbook.  The yearbook is now available for purchase.  Orders are accepted online at coffeepond.com.  The cost of this year’s yearbook is $23.00.  Directions on how to order may be found here.

  • Sweetheart Dance:  Sowams PTO invites you to Light Up The Night at the Sowams Sweetheart Dance on May 17th at Barrington Middle School from 6-8pm. This year's theme is Neon Glow and we will transform under black lights to make you glow!  Be creative with attire; dress up or down wearing your favorite white and/or neon colors to shine together! We’ll have a DJ, activity/game stations, and a photo booth to bring the fun. Advanced tickets and RSVP required for $5 per person (Student + Adult = $10). Capacity is limited.  Please RSVP at Sowams Dance RSVP link (click here). For additional purchase on-site there will be food trucks (Pams Grill and Kona Ice) and a portrait photo station. Hope to see you there! More information may be found here.

  • Volunteer Appreciation Week:  The week of April 22, 2024, is Volunteer Appreciation Week.  We have many volunteers at Sowams and we are truly grateful for all that you do to support our faculty, staff, and students.  Thank you for all that you do to contribute to the success of our school.

  • Sowams PTO at Blithewold:  Save the Date:  The Sowams PTO is happy to sponsor a morning at Blithewold on April 28, 2024, at 10:30 in the morning.  A special group rate and information on signing up may be found here.  The link to sign up may be found here.

  • From Barrington Public Library: The Barrington Public Library is partnering with the Barrington Land Conservation Trust once again on the "Look and Find Nature Walk and Raffle" from April 6 to 21 at Osamequin Nature Preserve. Families can do this activity on their own time, anytime between dawn and dusk. Clues with letters and numbers are hidden along the nature path at Osamequin. Students use these clues to solve a word scramble. Everyone who submits their word scramble to the Library is entered into a drawing for a backpack full of kid-friendly outdoor exploration supplies and books. The details can be found on the Library's event page: https://barringtonlibrary.libcal.com/event/11998407

  • Community Notices:  There are a couple notices for you today.  The first notice is from the Barrington Education Foundation regarding their annual drive and from the DEI Committee of Barrington regarding the viewing of a documentary called Swim Team (parents of a boy with autism forms a competitive swim team).

On behalf of all of us at Sowams, I hope everyone has a great vacation week next week and you are able to find some time to relax.

Best,

Jim Callahan

Principal
